Project Showcase: How Silent Pods and Libraries Create the Perfect Match

Mar 07, 2026

In the tranquil atmosphere of a library, the occasional ring of a mobile phone always stands out as particularly jarring. For the reader receiving the call, rushing out of the reading area inevitably disrupts others; for those deeply engrossed in their books, the sudden sound breaks their concentration. This dilemma, which plagues countless libraries, has now found its perfect solution at Sanshui Library—our company's silent pods have officially been installed, creating "acoustic islands" where readers can handle phone calls with peace of mind.

Solving the Pain Point: No More "Awkward Escapes"

As the spiritual living room of a city and a sanctuary for readers' souls, a library's core value lies in providing a quiet, focused reading space. However, in modern life, mobile phones have become an "external organ" that people cannot abandon—important work calls, urgent family contacts, sudden delivery notifications... these real-life needs make it difficult for readers to completely "cut themselves off from the world."

"Before, when I got a call, I'd either have to rush out while muffling the phone, or whisper in the reading area—embarrassing and disruptive to others," shared a reader using the pod. Another reader admitted that they used to set their phone to silent mode for fear of disturbing others, only to miss an important job interview notification. Almost every frequent library visitor deeply understands this "dilemma."

Now at Sanshui Library, that scene has become history.

The introduction of our silent pods precisely targets this daily challenge. Readers no longer need to make a "hasty retreat" to answer calls, nor agonize over the choice between "disturbing others by taking calls" and "missing important matters by not answering." They simply walk calmly into the pod, close the door, and handle their call without affecting anyone else.

The pods feature professional acoustic materials and multi-layer sealed construction, delivering excellent sound insulation performance. Actual measurements show they can isolate internal and external sounds to below 40 decibels. This means: conversations inside won't leak out to disturb other readers, and the sound of pages turning outside won't interfere with calls—this small space simultaneously protects the dignity of both those seeking silence and those who need to speak.

Notably, the pods are equipped with intelligent ventilation systems ensuring fresh air during longer calls; multi-angle lighting design meeting various illumination needs; and multi-function charging ports allowing readers to power up their devices while handling phone matters. Every detail reflects human-centered design.

Aesthetics Matter: Enhancing the Library's Spatial Appeal

As urban cultural landmarks, libraries naturally pursue spatial beauty. Sanshui Library itself is a building that blends modern design with cultural atmosphere, and any new addition must harmonize with its overall environment.

Our silent pods, featuring modern minimalist design, transparent glass facades, and warm material combinations, not only blend seamlessly with Sanshui Library's overall style but have become a striking focal point.

With sleek lines and elegant proportions, the pods use high-transmittance, low-reflectance glass—ensuring visual transparency while avoiding light pollution. Multiple color options are available for customization based on the library's existing decor, truly achieving "integration without sudden, accent without overshadowing."

Placed in a corner of the reading area, the pods are noticeable yet harmonious, practically begging to be photographed. Readers often pause to admire them, and many happily share photos on social platforms like Friends Circle and Xiaohongshu after using them. One reader commented: "This library phone booth is amazing—great looking and super practical. No more awkward calls!" The pods don't just solve a functional need; they've become a "traffic driver" that enhances the library's spatial quality and attracts visitors.

Flexibility and Efficiency: Easy to Move and Install

Compared to the "major surgery" required for traditionally built meeting rooms or phone booths, the advantages of our silent pods are clear:

First, easy relocation. Traditional construction, once completed, is "fixed" in place. If future space planning changes, it can only be demolished and rebuilt, causing resource waste. Silent pods, with their modular design, require no damage to existing floors or walls. They can be repositioned anytime based on changing foot traffic or functional needs—today in the reading area, tomorrow in the lobby, the day after in the corridor. The imagination for spatial layout is no longer constrained by fixed construction.

Second, quick installation. Traditional construction involves design, approval, construction, inspection, and multiple other stages, with timelines often spanning weeks or even months. Throughout this period, dust, noise, and worker traffic severely disrupt normal library operations. Silent pods, as prefabricated products, require only simple assembly upon arrival and can be put into use the same day—truly achieving "zero construction time, zero disruption, zero complaints."

Third, plug-and-play. Internal circuits are pre-installed, with lighting, ventilation, and power outlets built in. On-site, only a power connection is needed—no complex wiring or circuit modifications, zero damage to the original building structure.

A Sanshui Library staff member commented: "From decision to full operation, the entire process was incredibly smooth, with zero impact on normal library hours—that's what impressed us most. If our space layout changes later, these pods can move with us—no waste at all."

Cost-Effective Choice: More Economical Than Traditional Construction

With limited budgets, how to achieve maximum spatial value with minimal investment is a question every public institution contemplates.

Building permanent spaces involves high costs for design, materials, labor, management, plus a series of hidden costs including long timelines, noise and dust disruption, and future inflexibility. Taking a traditional 10-square-meter soundproof room as an example, from design to completion, total investment often ranges from tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand yuan—and once built, it's immovable; if future space planning changes, it must be abandoned.

Our silent pods, with their prefabricated, standardized, and reusable design, significantly reduce full lifecycle costs:

·Low procurement cost: Economies of scale from mass production mean that for the same area, pod investment is only about one-third that of traditional construction

·Low usage cost: Modular design facilitates maintenance; individual damaged parts can be replaced without Overall disposal

·Low relocation cost: Can be repeatedly disassembled, moved, and reused—truly "one investment, long-term benefits"

·Low time cost: Ready for immediate use upon purchase, no waiting required—maximizing the effectiveness of limited budgets

"We compared costs with building a similarly sized soundproof room—the pod required less than one-third of the investment, with better results," said a Sanshui Library representative. "Plus, if our space plan changes later, the pod can move with us—no waste. In the long run, this investment is very cost-effective."

Beyond Phone Calls: Endless Possibilities

Although Sanshui Library initially introduced the pods primarily for phone calls, readers have quickly discovered additional uses, giving this small space unexpected vitality:

Online Interviews: Graduation season means peak job interview periods. Previously, graduates struggled to find quiet, tidy interview locations—dormitories too noisy, classrooms occupied, cafes with messy backgrounds. Now, silent pods have become "interview saviors." Close the door, adjust the lighting, tidy appearance, and confidently face interviewers against the clean pod background. One student exclaimed: "This pod saved my autumn recruitment!"

Remote Meetings: For staff, graduate students, and researchers needing to participate in remote meetings, silent pods provide private spaces for focused communication. Whether group discussions, thesis defenses, or remote collaboration—all can proceed without distraction.

Reading Aloud: Language learners and exam candidates often need to read aloud and recite, but in traditional libraries, such behavior is considered "disturbing." Silent pods meet this need—speak freely, practice loudly, without disturbing others.

Paired Discussions: Small pods accommodate two readers for Soft communication study insights or discuss topics without worrying about affecting surrounding readers.

Meditation and Relaxation: Some readers use silent pods as brief "spiritual sanctuaries"—put on headphones, close eyes, and enjoy 10 minutes of solitude during busy study schedules.

This single silent pod has become one of the library's most versatile, frequently used, and highly appreciated "treasure spaces." Statistics show that since installation, daily average usage exceeds 8 hours, with the reservation system often showing "no pods available."

At Sanshui Library, our silent pods have proven one thing: solving everyday problems doesn't require major renovations; enhancing space quality can be light and efficient.
